Willkommen auf den Seiten des Auswärtigen Amts
The photos are from today’s meeting (25.05.) of EU heads of diplomatic missions working in Minsk. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our esteemed Latvian colleagues. The demand of the Belarusian authorities that all but one Latvian diplomats leave Minsk is regrettable and counterproductive. Last fall, Lithuania and Poland were forced to recall their ambassadors for consultations and reduce their diplomatic presence in Minsk, and we have no information when our colleagues can return. Such attempts to target individual Member States will not succeed in weakening our unity. All 27 EU Member States call on the authorities in Belarus to end violence and unlawful prosecution, release all political prisoners, including the editors, journalists and staff of tut.by as well as Pavel Sieviaryniec, Jauhien Afnahiel, Paviel Juchnievic, Dzmitryj Kazlou, Iryna Scasnaja, Maksim Viniarski and Andrej Vojnic who were tried behind closed doors on spurious charges and sentenced today to prison terms of up to 7 years. Today the heads of mission of EU Member States discussed the latest human rights cases. We reiterate the Union’s call on the authorities in Belarus to cease violence and unlawful persecution and instead engage in an inclusive national dialogue with a view to ensure a sovereign, safe, democratic and prosperous future of Belarus.
